High arc resistance is critical for materials used in both high-voltage and low-voltage high-current switch applications, where arc exposure is common. Only materials with unparalleled arc resistance can withstand such conditions.
In electrical and electronic devices, insulating materials facing high-voltage, low-current arc discharges show notable surface damage variation. These discharges cause localized thermal and chemical breakdowns, leading to corrosion and eventually forming a conductive path, marking test failure.
